Casey Estep: Outside Reading 2

I recently finished a book called A Life Worth Living by Chuck Reinhold. Chuck was a Young Life leader who grew up in southern Pennsylvania. He was a star football player and probably the most popular kid in school. When he graduated, he was invited to go on a journey which changed his life. He was invited to attend a missions trip to central Africa where he developed a heart for people. His journey there was deeply influential to his outlook on life and God's love for people. He went on to lead many many young people to the Lord through his work and was influential in the development of Young Life in the Northern Virginia area.

This book was recommended to me by my roommate Jonathan Pilsch, a fellow Young Life leader because it was pivotal to his perspective on leading. Reinhold talks a lot about the power of scripture memorization and discipleship, two aspects which have strongly affected my life's journey as well. Something that struck me about the book was the quotes from a man named Joe Marks. Joe is the regional director for Young Life in south eastern Virginia. That means he is my boss's boss and is directly responsible for the school where I lead. I also life with his son Wil. It was really interesting reading his quotes because he's someone that I know. He is someone that I have met and feel that I know better than the average reader of Chuck's book. In one of his quotes he talks about how Chuck led him to the Lord. This was incredibly significant to me as Joe has been someone influential in my relationship with the Lord too. It was great to have a book that I could relate to so much in my walk with Christ.
