Axioms (i)
The first axiom of the sacred place is that the place is not chosen, but it chooses. This makes a lot of sense to me if I consider my upbringing. As a Christian, I was told that God (although it would be the same as other deities) is the ultimate, and therefore he was the one in charge of encounters, not ourselves. For that reason, the idea that a "sacred place" would posses the same forbearance and consciousness makes a lot of sense to me, even if I haven't fully wrapped my head around it yet. It also aligns well with the examples given of things like Jacob's ladder, or even just "regular" occurrences such as the author coming across the deer in the clearing.
