Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture Blog 2
We have talked about one's axis mundi in class, though I liked this spin that the author of the book, Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture, made. He stated that, "...movement form a mundane center to a sacred periphery which suddenly, transiently, becomes central for the individual, an axis mundi of his faith..." I think that people have different axis mundi's throughout their lives, but they start to find them as they go through different journeys throughout their lives. I don't think that it necessarily has to be apart of one's faith, though. In my opinion, their axis mundi can be in sync with whatever is most important in their life, not just what their faith is. Not everyone has a faith that is important in their lives, so I think if they have values (like family or a job) that can become their axis mundi. Also, similar to the book, I think that as things change in one's life, like college or graduating, values change, therefore so does their axis mundi because different things are important to them.
