Axioms (iii)

The fourth and final axiom is that the impulse of a sacred place is both centripetal and centrifugal. This reminds me very much of how globalized the world is becoming. There is a sense of security that comes with being home and in a place of familiarity, but at the same time, the populations of the world are pushing to spread and incorporate others into their way of life (or be the ones incorporated). It isn't strictly the same, but it is quite similar. The sacred place is held close by those who it is important to, but it has other ramifications. Places like Mecca, that are revered by those of the Muslim community are also acknowledged by those outside of the faith. In that way, it really is like globalization.
