Daniel Thompson: Arizona/New Mexico Trail Documentary
The documentary focused on a man who hiked one of the less traveled trails in the western United States. One of the obvious problems was the trail wasn't very well marked and so he often got lost. Few signs or guiding markers were present and the map he had wasn't super helpful. The map often required him to climb up and down canyons but without any guidance as to how to accomplish it. This forced the hiker the find his own path along the terrain. I think his journey on the trail was an allusion to life in several ways. Firstly, the difficulty of the trail varied wildly. Some parts were flat and others close to rock climbing. Life changes constantly, sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's hard. Secondly, the trail didn't hold his hand in guiding him through the canyons. This is similar to life in that we often know where we want to end up but don't know how to get there. There isn't anyone to hold our hand along the path and so we must make our own. I think if we adopted this mindset in our everyday lives then we would understand life a lot better.
