Fasting 11/29/2019

Fasting is something that I am familiar with. I fast on Fridays, and there is a ten-day period in October during which I fast. During this fast, I do not eat food or drink water until 2pm on Fridays and 6pm in October. It was interesting to learn about a fast from the conveniences of the modern world. This is most achieved through time spent on trails hiking. Out there, in the outside wilderness, conveniences that I enjoy now like running water, indoor plumbing, TemperPedic mattresses, and my car- those are conveniences, not necessities. I can imagine the benefit that would come from separating oneself from all of these things, and more, including the everyday busy hustle of the world. It seems that it would be truly breath-taking and eye-opening as I change my way of living to that simpler and more straightforward. A fast from modern conveniences is bound to be reorienting for me as I begin to learn about what is truly important to me and for me, and as I come back to the other reality, I reflect on my disdain for some and affirm my appreciation for other respects about it.
