Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture 2
Throughout the book, it compares religious beliefs to Christian beliefs. It's very compelling to see a pattern that the Christian culture consistently distinguished itself from the others. Typically when a pilgrim comes back from their pilgrimage, they experience a "spiritual step forward" despite themselves returning to their "former mundane existence." However, the Christian pilgrim doesn't experience a spiritual rising. Instead, they have a "moral standing in the community" which is gained by lessening the success of the citizen. Repeatedly, the Christian religion emphasizes selfless acts. Could this be a better solution for cleansing oneself from the evil doings of humans?
