Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Cultrue

On page 140, Chapter four is about Icons and tells some history about icons. It starts off with the history of Iconoclasm dating back to 1538 when Henry VIII ordered the destruction of statues of the Virgin in London. He wanted break the influence of the Roman Church and secure his value for the Crown. Icons are used as almost a portal to whoever is on that icon looking back at you. Praying to an Icon is not what people are doing, they are using the icon to connect on a deeper spiritual level and use it as a portal. Lots of people confuse icons for things people physically worship, it's not a physical connection to the icon, instead a symbolic connection.
