Landscapes of the sacred #2

pp. 19
On page 19 of Landscapes of the sacred, the four axioms are listed and disused. “Axioms” are rules that are set in place to guide the understanding of a sacred place. In other words, they act as qualifications to be considered a scared area. The first is that a sacred place is not chosen, it chooses. The second is that sacred place is an ordinary place, ritually made extraordinary. The third is that a sacred place can be treed upon without being entered. The fourth and final axiom is that the impulse of sacred place is both centripetal and centrifugal, local and universal.
