It was recently pointed out to me the impact on our spiritual health of our sins and how we respond to them. As a Christian, I believe that we are all sinners, and there is nothing that we can do to win Gods favor. It was through God's actions and the son of God taking our sins away that we have been given eternal life. Even knowing that Jesus has taken our sins, I still find it hard to forgive myself when experiencing feelings of envy, lust or even gluttony. These feelings that seem to be apart of my character make me almost uncomfortable with myself. However while talking with a mentor in faith about these feelings, I learned a very valuable lesson. What stood out to me was him saying that those feelings I had after experiencing sin, was actually a good thing. The feeling of guilt is the like the shadow that we get from living in the light of God. Those who don't experience those feelings, don't because they aren't living in that light and therefore have nothing to show them what is wrong. While this did not necessarily make me a better person who was less likely to sin right away, it did serve to reaffirm my feelings. When I do experience the sin in my life the guilty feeling is proof that I am trying to live the way God intended and that while my actions and thoughts might not be in the right place, my heart is and is slowly pushing me toward that good place.
