My Response to A Tension Between the Local and the Universal
On pages 32-34 of Landscapes of the sacred the author discusses the fourth and final axiom, which it that a sacred place is both local and universal. This can also be described as a place that both pull people towards it and at the same time pushes them away. Personally I see this in my own life in the way that I feel returning home for breaks. While I gain a lot from my trips home and enjoy them a lot I am always ready to return to school at the end of my trip. An example of this given in the chapter is that of the Muslims pilgrimage to Mecca. This pilgrimage is made be follower of the Islamic faith at least once in their life. This journey to the heart of a religion only to soon after return to ones home is a prime example of the fourth axiom.
