Ocracoke
For my last journal I have decided to write about one of my favorite memories in nature. Every year my family goes to the beach for one week, and it is something I look forward to constantly. There is nothing better than being in the water to me. While I have not been there in many years, Ocracoke was an island my family would go to for a while. The surf was rougher than anywhere else I had ever been, and I loved it. I fondly look back on the time I was given a double bloody nose after an intense wipeout, because I had never experienced such a worthy adversary as I had in the waves of Ocracoke.
One late afternoon we decided to go to the beach to have fun and hopefully watch the sunset. I had not checked the tide charts, but I was ready for some waves. However, when we got there the beach looked different than it had ever in all our time going there. To this day I have not been lucky enough to experience this at any other beach. When we arrived at the beach it seemed like it was low tide, but half of this long beach was covered in at least two feet of water. It gave the impression of one large tidal pool as long as I could see down the beach. To make it better there was nobody on the beach either. I must have spent hours in the shallow waters. It was perfectly clear, and full of fish. It was an experience unlike anything I had, or have had since. I think I is one of the moments that truly cemented my love for the water and most importantly for nature. Being able to experience that is something I will never forget, and it made me realize how a truly special place can present itself, if you are lucky enough to be there.
