On Praise and Prayer

In The Phenomenology of Prayer The author discusses the different types of prayer. These include: thanksgiving, praise, confession, intercession and petition. Out of these praise is the one that is both the newest to me and the most interesting. It is made distinct from the other four types of prayer in the fact that it is completely removed from the self. Coming from a non religious family I grew up thinking of prayer as a monolith, simply consisting of asking for things from god. The Idea of praise based prayer goes ageist this simplified idea that I had constructed in my mind.
