Epicurus was a famous Ancient Greek philosopher in 270 B.C. He was well known for contributing theories about friendship and retirement. In this article, he explains what makes up the Three Pillars and why they are important to your everyday life. The first pillar is the Cultivate True Friendships, which essentially says that true, meaningful friendships are fundamental to our happiness. Having these bonds are vital: we should focus cultivating true friendships rather than searching for romantic relationships. These friendships should allow you to grow as a person: to make you a better human being. The next pillar is to Produce Meaningful Work: this means that the key to satisfaction in our working lives isn't earning a lot of money, but the knowledge that we're producing meaningful work. To produce this "meaningful work", a person must love the work that they put out. You have to be passionate about your major or career in order to reach your fullest potential. Finally, the last pillar is to Learn to Live Happily with Less. This final pillar means to enjoy life without having the fixation with desire. Epicurus and his friends wanted the peace of mind: to be calm through meditation to reflect or even write in journals. These methods allowed them to focus on what means the most to them.
